We visited Le Sanctuaire in July 2013 for 1 week. The house seemed a perfect fit for our extended family holiday and it was better than we could have hoped. There were 6 adults and 3 children and we had loads of space so didn’t get under each others feet. The house really was beautiful and the location amazing – couldn’t have been better. Inside the house was beautifully presented and the outside space and pool superb. There really is all the facilities you could need. We ate together as a family so only really used the ground floor kitchen and lounge – We mainly ate outside on the patio but it was handy having the other kitchens/lounges on the other floors. During our stay there were a couple of things needed/missing and the owner & agents attended to these quickly and efficiently. It was pretty hot during our stay and, as only the top floor is air conditioned, we asked for some fans for the rooms. These were organised and dropped off quickly. There is loads to do in the area, some great swimming lakes nearby and the village is a picture perfect French village with a great little bakery, cafe, restaurant, small supermarket and butchers. Everything you could need. The locals couldn’t have been nicer and put up with our poor attempt at French! It really was our sanctuary for a week and we were very sad to leave. We hope to return again soon.
We stayed 2 weeks at Le Sanctuaire in the lovely quiet village of St Saud Lacoussiere. We were 12 people, extended family: 6 adults and 6 children, all hoping for what the property promised, a sanctuary. Even though our expectations were high after looking at photos on the website, we were thrilled on our arrival. The owner, Blen, has painstakingly thought through every detail of what you might need or want for a perfect holiday, from modern, easy to use kitchens and comfortable beds to the extravaganza of a gorgeous heated pool, a jacuzzi, sauna and of course, the playroom with a pooltable (!) and Xbox, Playstation and Wii. We all used the gym which made eating the beautiful croissants and pain de chocolat from the local boulangerie easier;-) The owner and the local contacts were very easy to get in touch with, and helpful, had we any queries. Our children learned to swim in the pool during our stay and we enjoyed visiting the beautiful markets that were held in different villages in the vicinity. We would warmly recommend Le Sanctuaire to anyone who wants to enjoy a hasslefree, relaxing holiday. We have nothing to complain about, and our standards and expactations were very high. I just hope it won´t be impossible to book again!
We stayed at Le Sanctuaire in June with family, our group was 4 couples & 3 young children. This was our first holiday of this kind & prior to arrival any queries or concerns we had were dealt with very quickly. Upon arrival we were met by Denise and Bob who were very welcoming & showed us around the property & advised how to work things like the sauna, hot tub etc.
The property looked great in the photos we had seen but was so much more impressive when we saw it for ourselves. All floors were furnished to a very high standard, kitchens had everything you could need including large American style fridge freezers on each floor. All floors had digital TV including most UK channels and free Wi-fi was available throughout the property. Also provided were a selection of books, DVD’s, CD’s & board games. Bedding, towels & dressing gowns were also provided.
At the rear of the property was a very large garden area with large heated pool & large lawned area. Also in the garden was the hot tub and sauna area. The hot tub was a good size, easy to use and well lit for nighttime use.
The villa was situated in the lovely village of St Saud. In the village was a grocery store, bakery / patisserie, butchers, pharmacy, bar/cafe and two restaurants all within two minutes walking distance.
We found the people in the village very friendly, locals in the bar even making the effort to recommend places to visit. We would definitely stay here again & would highly recommend this property. The facilities really did offer something for everyone. Living in such luxury accommodation for a week was a joy & our only regret is that we couldn’t stay longer!

This was our first holiday of this kind and prior to arrival any queries or concerns we had were dealt with very quickly.
Upon arrival we were met by Denise and Bob who live nearby and look after the property on behalf of the owners. They were very welcoming and showed us around the property and advised how to work things like the sauna, hot tub etc.

The villa was spread across three floors. On the ground floor there was a large living/dining area leading to a fully equipped kitchen, double bedroom and large bathroom with large bath and seperate shower. To the other side of the hallway on the ground floor was another lounge area with wine chiller, music system and games which was an ideal area for socialising on an evening. This led through to a gym area with a good selection of gym equipment. The gym had patio doors leading to the garden, the garden could also be accessed from the main hallway.
On the first floor was a large open plan lounge/kitchen/dining area, this area had patio doors leading to a large balcony area with lots of seating and tables. This floor had two bedrooms and another bathroom.
The second floor was similar to the first floor, consisting of large open plan living/dining/kitchen area, two bedrooms and bathroom.
All floors were furnished to a very high standard, kitchens had everything you could need including large american style fridge freezers on each floor. All floors had digital tv including most uk channels and free WIFI was available throughout the property. Also provided were a selection of books/DVD’s/CD’s/board games. Bedding, towels and dressing gowns were also provided.
Each floor had its own unique style and could be used as a self contained apartment as doors leading to hallway/stairs could all be locked. The amount of space the villa offered meant that even in such a large group it was always possible to have space to yourself should you need it. Each floor had a welcome pack which included wine, beer, tea/coffee, biscuits and an information pack offering details of things going on nearby and how to resolve any problems. During our stay we encountered a slight problem with internet and outdoor lighting, using the contact details provided Bob and Denise came round quickly to resolve this for us.
Externally, to the front of the property, was a courtyard with ample parking for 4/5 cars. Leading from the courtyard was a well equipped washroom incuding large washing machine and separate tumble dryer, also in this area was bikes that could be used during your stay, tennis rackets/balls to use at nearby courts and large picnic baskets.
To the other side of the courtyard was a large games room, this included a brand new full size, good quality pool table, flatscreen tv with nintendo wii, board games, fridge and music system, there were also a couple of sofa’s in this area and two toilets.
At the rear of the property was a very large garden area, this included large heated pool, large lawned area ideal for the kids, plenty of sun loungers, large hammock, two large seating areas under gazebo’s again all good quality furnishings and all cushions were provided and there was ample storage to keep everything covered at night. Also in the garden was the hot tub and sauna area. The hot tub was a good size, easy to use and well lit for nightime use. The sauna was also very easy to use and could comfortably house 6 people lying down. This area had two outdoor showers and was fenced off so you didnt have to worry about children getting access to hot tub or sauna. The garden area is entirely enclosed meaning children couldnt get out. The garden and pool was maintained weekly. The garden was a very good size meaning you could sit in the sun at any time of day.
The villa was situated in the lovely village of St Saud. In the village was a grocery store, bakery/patisserie, butchers, pharmacy, bar/cafe and two restaurants all within two minutes walking distance. Both restaurants, Le Sully and Hostellerie Saint Jacques were very nice but i would highly recommend Saint Jacques in particular, we had one of the nicest meals we have enjoyed at this restaurant. A little further up the village was a large lake, park area and a cafe/snack bar.
The nearest major supermarket was about 10-15 mins away in Nontron, we had no problems finding Nontron and had a choice of 3 supermarkets in this area. Nontron also hold a weekly market on a Saturday, we never visited this but did visit markets in Piegut and Brantome, both within 20-30 mins drive. A few of us also went canoeing in the picturesque town of Brantome, this was both enjoyable and reasonably priced.
We found the people in the village very friendly despite the language barrier, locals in the bar even making the effort to recommend places to visit and providing us with the number for someone who could recommend a good spot for fishing.
Le Sanctuaire is definately somewhere we would stay again and would highly recommend this property. The facilities really did offer something for everyone. Living in such luxury accomodation for a week was a joy and our only regret is that we couldnt stay longer!
I have been a regular guest here and would highly recommend to everyone who is considering a holiday or short stay. The apartments are always spotlessly clean and very well equipped. We had a fantastic Christmas with family from all over the globe meeting here and have some amazing memories. Thank you very much. See you again.
I spent a week in le Sanctuaire and had the most amazing time. I would absolutely love to go back and highly recommend it to everyone! Everything was in great condition and as mentioned in the description. Everyone involved was really friendly and helpful! A wonderful, dreamy place for everyone who’s looking for a place to relax away from the stress of the daily life!
The house was excellent and provided the space and facilities anyone would want from their holiday. The pool, hot tub etc were excellent and even in the rain provided hours of fun. The three self contained floors allowed the extended family some privacy and independence and all floors were extremely well equipped and spacious. The location was great with some lovely towns and villages close by. The village itself had everything you would want and the locals were extremely friendly. Big thanks to the local couple who were the main point of contact…nothing was too much bother and always a quick response!!!
